From spelling to punctuation to characterization to editing, this is the best yet. A great read as they have all been. Joe Nobody is a guy I would really like to meet, but already know from my own past. That is what really makes his stories and characters stand out for me. Holding Their Own XIII Renegade eBook Joe Nobody ET Ivester Reviews
Great book. Joe Nobody does it again
As always- Joe keepsMe spellbound till the last page and the only disappoint is that I readIt too fast. Hope 14 is in the near horizon.
Very cool a lil far fetched that the army built by the incumbent government wouldnt defend her and the capital or that the US would not assist to thwart civil war in texas but a cool read nonetheless.😁
Instead of rating this book on its own merits I'll give it a 4 for the whole series, which I've enjoyed reading. This installment was one of series' weakest, both for the book on its own and as as an end to the big story, but that big story has enough plot, sub-plots, good characters and their adequate development, and geographic and technical background to keep me going. I applaud Mr. Nobody for a job well done.
As always,I love these books. The only critical statement I might make is that, if possible, the formula should get changed up a bit to prevent stagnation. Maybe hard hitting action through every chapter or a huge finale vibe right at the beginning with a slight lull before cranking up to eleven... I don't know, I'm not a writer, but as long as Obama doesn't change the series I think a slight change might freshen the series back up. Keep up the good work Joe!
I don't really do reviews, but this series is absolutely riveting, its difficult to put down and will keep you entertained the whole time!!
I rarely review books... however that being said, I have to review this one. Fairly obviously, I have read at least 12 other books by Joe Nobody and I must like them or I wouldn't have reached number 13. I have to comment on the editing however. Editing? What editing? That's right... I think Joe really ought to fire his editor. I love the continuing plot of these books, but they're really starting to make me laugh. Mostly because of "word usage"... some of the writing (or lack of proofing/editing) is simply... amazing. Here are some examples taken from THIS book alone
"The situation was exasperated by the uneven nature... " Really?! "Exasperated"? I think Joe really means, "exacerbated"...
"Maybe your ugly faces will be enough to disburse the crowd." Did he really write, "disburse"? Look it up! He means DISPERSE! The worst part about this one is, he used this word a LOT!
"Election day was a huge event, and the restaurant magnet was sure...." Magnet? Was the guy a rare earth magnet, or just a plain one? Joe clearly meant to say, MAGNATE... don't you think?
"His humble track of land was producing a bumper crop." A track of land? Never heard of it. I have heard of a TRACT of land though!
That's just a taste of the delightful proofing and editing. You can see that a simple spellcheck would not have found these... but an eagle-eyed proofer certainly should have! I will continue to read Joe's books, as I enjoy them. I really do think he needs someone looking over his shoulder though. 3 stars for effort alone.
